The Design and Construction of the World’s Tallest Building: The Burj Khalifa, Dubai

نویسنده

  • Bill Baker
چکیده

The design of the Burj Khalifa represents a truly collaborative effort between all members of the design team. A tower of such height required interaction and input from all parties to create a system and form that responds efficiently to wind and gravity loads, while also facilitating construction and enhancing building function. This paper will focus on the challenges faced by the design team, as well as the lessons learned during the design and construction phases, and how they can be applied to the next generation of supertall buildings.

Brief on the Construction Planning of the Burj Dubai Project , Dubai , UAE

The Burj Dubai Project will be the tallest structure ever built by man; when completed the tower will be more than 700 meters tall and more than 160 floors. The early integration of aerodynamic shaping and wind engineering considerations played a major role in the architectural massing and design of this residential tower, where mitigating and taming the dynamic wind effects was one of the most...

Seismicity increase after the construction of the world’s tallest building: An active blind fault beneath the Taipei 101

[1] Seismic activity began to slightly increase during the construction but rose sharply upon the completion of the tallest building in the world, the Taipei 101, which stands at 508 m in the Taipei basin, where local seismicity had historically very low. Besides an increase in both seismic energy and the number of micro-earthquakes, two felt earthquakes astonishingly occurred beneath the compl...
